TRABAJO EXPERIENCE

My work experience has not had a lot of difference between the school experience I once had. Knowing how grown up we all are right now, it can get a bit tricky to let loose, get a little vulnerable, or as I say it, children go to school to grow up, study, and find out their dreams whilst older people go to work to earn a living, continue growing up and for a few, live their dreams. We also know how schools end up creating some of the best memories of their students’ lives. As the students always end up making amazing friends, some who would last in their life time, visits to each other, attendance to conferences & debates, participation in different school competitions, pushing themselves not only for the school goals, but their own goals and finally they end up doing the most important thing, living life alive.

So how does it get hard when we grow up. What is the difference in this experience. I mean 8 to 5 we know the drill. Isn’t that just like going to school every morning and coming back home. (Workaholics would have asked for a boarding school experience😊). What do we learn in these places. In our work places. With every experience and leaders, we meet? Do we intentionally aim to grow, learn from one another, or do we have minds fixed to the systems that do not encourage or enhance vulnerability or emotional intelligence? What do we focus on when we are here? Is it getting the tasks done, or is it to encourage impact among each encounter.

All that aligns with our work, exposes us to living libraries, living legends, people with the required experiences through their very own life journey. The uniqueness in our life’s stories should hold us closer and together, increasing the hunger to see everyone succeed. God only knows what we can learn from each other only through the lives we have lived to this moment. And jokes on us, for we are stuck with each other, we can learn and grow, or remain stuck in the same space.

So what is the difference between offices and schools? With school, a student has goals and targets. Adding to this, a student can have their own personal dream, vision and missions, but the school is the support system to push these kids towards achievements. So, no blaming bad teachers, they are just a support system, not the whole system for a student to achieve their goals. With work, how sweet, I know how the experiences are not so black and white but nothing beats a leader that supports dreams and goals of those he leads.

With school, a purpose is clearly defined and the goals towards what we are working to are clearly identified. You would never meet a student who has no idea how many years they are required in a certain level of school, what books to read, and more specifications and some rules. With offices again, different experiences. You should identify yours.

Finally, as we remain in the here and now, I want to encourage a culture. One that works within my organization. Leaders cheering each other’s up and cheering up those they lead. Get a bit vulnerable and have a sense of humor. Pushing each and everyone in the team, towards the goals, that enhances all their personal targets, goals and dreams. Feeding everyone with what strengthens them than that which constantly reminds them of their weakness.

Organization growth is very important, but what is more important is the people working towards building that organizational growth. A terrible example of working only to achieve targets is that of the strongest black people we know, our own ancestors. Who were forcefully taken to build other people’s countries, with no options of survival, but forced to achieve targets. They ended building up beautiful countries filled with pain and a need to find a way out. We all know the story
